Q&A with Apeiron

SMS Messaging

How can I receive SMS messages using Aperion's service?

Apeiron's SMS service can provide inbound message delivery to both long codes & short codes.

What is a long code?

A long code is a 10 digit phone number assigned within the North American Dialing Plan (NADP). A long code means that you are using a local DID or a Toll Free Number (TFN) to send and receive messages.

Apeiron allows any NADP DID or TFN to be used to send and receive SMS messages. Acivate a new longcode or execute a port-in to begin using Apeiron's messaging service.

What is a short code?

A short code is a 5- or 6-digit number that can send and receive SMS (and MMS) to and from mobile phones. Apeiron currently offers short codes in the US & Canada only.

Short codes come in two varieties: vanity and random. A vanity shortcode is a specific number that you choose, while a random shortcode is assigned to you and can’t be reviewed in advance.

Short codes must be leased from a national registry for a minimum of three months at a time. Apeiron will lease a short code on your behalf from this registry, unless you prefer otherwise.

Apeiron short codes can send 100 messages per second by default; this limit can be raised for an additional fee. Because short codes can send high volumes of messages, wireless carriers approve every short code for its intended use. This shortcode approval process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks.

How can I receive SMS messages with my Apeiron numbers?
